Tis the Season to be Winking

Because it'll be a while before our next issue in February, the WINK staffers thought it was time for another blogging foray. And as it is the season of mass commercialized giving, we thought we'd put our minds together and come up with alternative gift ideas you can use. Best part of it all? They don't cost a thing. Well, at least not a lot.

Star Gazing at the Beach

You will need...
A tent
Some food
Some friends

Give Doughnuts to Homeless People

Where: Voodoo Doughnuts on 3rd ave.
What: Buckets of extra doughnuts for $3-$5
How to: Not even the Grinch can eat all the pastries he wants. Give your doughnuts to the homeless under the nearby Burnside bridge.

Make Your Own Foil Animals

You will need...
Aluminum foil (don't forget to recycle!)
A friend with a good sense of humor with no shallow expectations for a "real" gift

Write a Song for Your Friend
Photobucket

An instrument such as: your voice, harmonica, tamborine
Campy song lyrics imitating the Beatles imitating Chuck Berry

IT'S HERE!!!

Photobucket

Wink, our highly anticipated baby panda, is finally here. After months of dreaming, talking, hard work, and more dreaming, we did it!!! Go out and get your copy today!!!

There's only a precious few left, so if you want your copy email us at whswink@gmail.com or find us during lunches and before or after school.

THANK YOU to the students, staff members, and the odd computer savvy person who have all helped, contributed, and supported WINK in some way. Thanks! And let's make another one! (A magazine, not a panda)

Movies we recommend

It's been slow-mo for us here at the W!NK offices (whenever journalism, student gov't, yearbook, or spacl isn't using it). For the information you want and need about deadlines, submissions, etc., contact us whswink@gmail.com

Since W!NK is about the love of the arts and culture, we compiled a little list of upcoming movies that we think rule and recommend for this upcoming "I need to get out of the house and away from my boring cousins from Iowa" holiday season. Enjoy!

#1 The Darjeeling Limited
Family. Failure. Quirky one-liners. And hero Max Fischer. What would imaginative outsiders do without Wes Anderson?

#2 Across the Universe
HAVE YOU BEEN WAITING FOREVER TO SEE THIS MOVIE TOO? This movie has Beatles classics sung by 70's Vietnam protesters and free love lovers. Who has ever recorded a good Beatles cover? Well, if the covers are performed in a gigantic movie-musical production with a lot of eye candy...
#3 Once
Wouldn't your day be a whole lot better if you met a musician on the street and then you make sweet, melodic, wonderful music together??? Wouldn't it rule some more if you sang and played the piano WHILE you were looking adorable in a cute hippie skirt/boy blazer outfit???
So we hope you've enjoyed this little edition of "W!NK things you should try." Be sure to come back next time, when we wax poetic on the best cheese balls found in Oregon

WINK on Facebook!

Come and join the Facebook group --> W!NK - Westview Ink.
There's all sorts of fun to be had! Chat with other Wink-ees and discover their ideas and what they're doing this summer (especially for WINK!).

And yes, the breathtaking art above (done in the lovely, but oft neglected Paint program) depicts the face of Harry Potter and a book (can you guess what book it is? Anyone? Anyone? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!).

Who loves the sun? Who wants to contribute to Wink??

'CAUSE YA CAN! Congratulations, it is now summer. For the first time in months, you're up at 2 a.m. finishing a Star Wars marathon instead of doing homework. For the first time in months, YOU ARE FREE. Unless you're taking like, SAT classes and Chinese school and youth seminars and ASE and MYAB and doing soul sucking, God forsaken college fluff activities. Anyways, I believe I've gone off on a tangent. Apologies.

If you have material you want to send in, but need to edit before turning it in, don't hesitate! Don't be like these people....

Don't be hiding in trees. 'Cause we'll cut them down and make paper out of them to use for Wink.

We <3 Comics

Well, it's more like "Leann <3 comics while Beth and Neethu smile politely and roll their eyes when Leann looks away." We at Wink don't believe in nepotism and all that crock, but we do have some stuff of our own that we'd be more than happy to publish. While Beth writes witty poetry, and Neethu writes scathing social commentaries, I....draw silly pictures of lonely domestic objects.

At Wink, we don't discriminate (and yes Tara, that includes manga anime too)...we discrimin-love (wow, that was poetic. Beth would be proud). And we love comics. So send us your goods!

The Best for Last

So sure, I'm the last editor to blog here but you know what they say...save the best for last =D. No really we're all super wonderful and beyond-words excited about next year. Wink is a really revolutionary production not only for Westview, but for the whole district. Yes that means it'll be bumpy sometimes but, in the end, Neethu, Leann, and I are completely convinced, 100% positive, willing-to-bet-the-farm on the fact that this will be the best thing Westview's seen since, well, ever. Can't wait to hear from all you Winkies out there and, just like Rammy (a.k.a. Neethu) wrote, it's NEVER too early to submit!! -Beth
Hey everyone,
so i am very excited about Wink next year. we really want an entry from every corner of Westview. Something to represent every different group at our school. If you already know how to use indesign let us know because so far only Beth and i know how. If not, no worries everyone interested will learn next year. It is a super cool program that will allow us to design our pages exactly how we want. Don't forget guys... IT IS NOT TOO EARLY TO SUBMIT STUFF. anything, send it to our email. alright, i'm out.

The Temporary Blog Site...Fleeting, like the summer

Hey, Wink-ees!

This is Leann, one of the editors of Wink -- though there's nothing to edit really. We want to start getting your awesome stories and stuff! -- I'm on the phone with Kram Kram (the brain child behind this progressive ship of literary awesomeness) and she's telling me to post something "not boring." Um, thanks.

Some of you might have picked up a Wink flyer in your Lit classes already. Hooray! You know the drill. We want your goods! It can be anything: stories, social commentary, essays, poetry, photography, song lyrics, art, cartoons, or something you doodled during class that holds a certain place in your heart. We will accept anything that doesn't make Coleman blush.

I also heard through the grapevine that a whiz genius is interested in designing a Wink website for us. However, we're not really sure when this person is going to get started, so http://whswink.blogspot.com is the designated Wink watering hole for the time being. Be sure to check the blog this summer for updates or to chat with Neethu, Beth, and me. We look forward to receiving your amazing material.

Ta for now!
